Particle background
Also called particle network, floating particles, or constellation background
A backdrop of small dots that drift slowly, often linked by faint lines when they pass close to each other, behind a hero or sign-in screen.

}Add a particle background behind the hero headline: a full-size canvas with 40 small gray dots (2 to 3px) drifting at 10 to 20px per second and bouncing off the edges, joined by 1px lines whose opacity fades from 35% to 0 as dots move from 0 to 110px apart. Scale the canvas for devicePixelRatio, pause the loop while the hero is off screen, and draw a single still frame when prefers-reduced-motion is set.

What is Particle background?
A particle background fills a section with dozens of tiny dots moving in random directions. In the popular network style, any two dots closer than a set distance are joined by a thin line that fades as they drift apart, which suggests connections, data, or a starfield. It usually sits behind a headline, a sign-in form, or a launch page.
It is drawn on a <canvas> with a requestAnimationFrame loop: each frame moves every dot a little, bounces it off the edges, and redraws. Libraries such as tsParticles package this up, but a hand-written version takes only a few dozen lines.
Performance is the main pitfall. Checking every pair of dots for a line adds up fast, so stay around 30 to 80 dots. Keep lines faint so text on top stays readable, stop the loop while the section is off screen (browsers already pause it in hidden tabs), and draw a still frame under prefers-reduced-motion.

A burst of small colored pieces that fly out and flutter down to celebrate a moment, such as finishing signup or publishing a site.
Frame rate (FPS)
The number of frames a screen draws each second; around 60 fps, motion looks smooth, and at lower rates it starts to look choppy.
Aurora background
A background of soft, blurred color ribbons that drift slowly, like the northern lights, used behind hero sections and landing pages.
Grid background
A decorative background of thin grid lines, dots, or stripes, often faded toward the edges, used behind hero sections and product shots.
